Eco-Schools Green Flag award at Burton Latimer We are so proud to share that our Burton Latimer nursery has achieved their 2023 Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, with distinction! This award is an international accreditation that recognises young people's environmental actions! The programme itself empowers and engages young people (as well as staff teams and therefore families) in important environmental issues, teaches great responsibility and generates a sense of community, as well as develops the skills and knowledge children need to play an active role in protecting our environment now and throughout their lifetimes! Congratulations to all the children and the staff at the nursery and a big well done to their eco-leads Julie and Zsa for leading sustainable initiatives so wonderfully at Burton Latimer nursery, and for helping the nursery to achieve this award for the second year in a row! Snippets from Eco-Schools' feedback: "We love the open and inclusive approach you've taken to appointing your Eco-Committee, welcoming parent members who are passionate about supporting your young people to make a difference through drop-ins. This sets a positive and encouraging tone for your work and supports a collaborative and community ethos." "It's great to read that the Environmental Review helped you appreciate everything that your nursery is already doing to benefit the environment and the excellent work you've done to reduce waste, in particular." "We commend how you are using your outdoor resources, such as your wildlife homes, as anchors for your environmental education provision and teaching children how to care for animals. You have made significant efforts to involve your wider community, and your litter-picks, parent drop-ins and bee-keeper talk are all great examples of this. The food collection box for your local foodbank and parents is further testament to your charitable and community spirit. Well done!" To read more about Acorn's eco approach, click here.
