About our Nursery

Our nursery building at Kents Hill has been designed in an innovative octagonal shape with a central atrium and light and spacious rooms. The nursery benefits from large garden areas which can be accessed from each of the rooms; this gives the children the opportunity to free-flow indoors and outdoors to access a full range of activities. The nursery have pet chickens who roam freely in part of the garden throughout the day, enabling the children to collect eggs and then take turns to take eggs home.

Acorn places a strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, and the children have the opportunity to free flow outdoors all day every day, whatever the weather. Included in our fees are regular Forest School sessions to Kents Hill Park. These exciting educational experiences are suitable for pre-schoolers and are delivered by fully trained forest school leaders and offer an innovative approach to outdoor play

Our menus have been carefully planned to be both seasonal and nutritionally balanced and tasty ensuring we have clean plates every time! Our cook, Collin, prepares all the nursery meals and snacks on-site each day, providing nutritionally balanced meals which are both healthy and appetizing. We only use fresh, local, ethically sourced produce to create our delicious meals. We can accommodate most dietary requirements and have won several awards for our food.

A home visit from Elena the manager and your child’s keyperson is offered to all new families as we believe children benefit from meeting their keyperson in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions. Children are encouraged to form close bonds using our key person system to ensure learning and development are encouraged on an individual basis.

It’s not just the children who have all the fun at Acorn. We organise events on a regular basis to help parents meet each other, share experiences and talk to us. Some events are an opportunity to discuss children’s progress and development with the staff. The children make regular trips to two local care homes where they interact and socialise with the residents, and enjoy weekly nature walks, visits to the park, yoga and cooking sessions with our cook Collin.
