National Apprenticeship Week is a week dedicated to celebrating the value apprenticeships bring to both learners and employers, including us. At Acorn, we run a successful apprenticeship scheme for young people wanting to pursue a career in the Early Years industry, which is also part of our commitment in helping the industry grow and expand with fresh, young professionals.

In celebration of this we asked Kayley Drinkwater, who recently won Acorn’s “Apprentice Of The Year” what the past year with Acorn has been like for her.

‘Since starting at Acorn in October 2018 I have really enjoyed my journey so far. I have gained knowledge and experiences with working with different aged children, learning the basic needs of babies and older children. I have especially enjoyed gaining more knowledge in setting up the rooms and using the children’s interests and adapting them to suit each age range. I have found this very helpful when it has come to doing my course work. Doing the apprenticeship within the nursery environment has helped me so much, being hands on with the children, learning on the job and having a mentor to guide and support me has grown my confidence. I am looking forward to completing my Level 3 and becoming an Early Years Practitioner’

Acorn’s apprenticeship programme was designed for those looking to start their career in the Early Years industry, and we have encouraged many young people to sign up since it was established.

All of our apprentices make fantastic contributions to the running of our nurseries and we welcome new applications.
