A big congratulations to our team at Jubilee Wood for participating in Milton Keynes big YMCA sleep easy. The team camped out all night in support of the new Milton Keynes YMCA campus that will house 199 local young people from September.

Armed with sleeping bags, pillows and as many items from their wardrobe as they could possibly get on, the Jubilee Wood team kicked-off the night by building their shelters from cardboard boxes. Everyone enjoyed the camp fire singsong and Amy Sinnamon, Manager of Acorn at Jubilee Wood said;

“It was a real eye opener sleeping on the streets for a night and something I would not wish on anyone. The cold, wind and noise from people walking past made it difficult, however most of us managed to get 1- or 2-hours sleep”

Milton Keynes has been named the homeless youth capital of the UK in a recent article published by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism. Many of the young people that come to the YMCA are vulnerable, socially isolated and in desperate need of a safe place to stay. Sleep Easy is a fundraising event which aims to raise money to help prevent youth homelessness and support the new YMCA building. Some of our Jubilee Wood team participated in this event and slept outside to experience one night of what a young homeless person experiences every day.

The funds raised will go towards the new YMCA campus that’s due to open in September 2019.

If you would like to support our nursery team at Jubilee Wood their donation page will be live until the end of the month;
