This course supports childminders to understand the role of DSL in addition to their normal safeguarding responsibilities. 

  • Describe the role of the designated safeguarding lead (DSL)
  • State key areas of responsibility & explore how to undertake them
  • Describe key legislation & guidance that underpins the role
  • Identify the steps childminders need to take to ensure the safety of children 
  • Understand how to address an allegation against the childminder
  • Make appropriate decisions about action to be taken
  • Understand the importance of recording, storing & sharing information
  • Explore record keeping and how long they need to be kept
  • Update on current safeguarding priorities and concerns
