About our Nursery

Established in 1997, this small and friendly nursery is situated in the village of Brafield-on-the-Green. It is in an idyllic setting, a quiet location on the edge of the village, next to the church.

We offer full and part-time care for up to 45 children from the age of four months to four years, and are open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. We are closed for all Bank Holidays, between Christmas and New Year, and four training days each year. This means that monthly fees are calculated over 49 weeks, so that you are not charged for any of our closure days.

One of the nursery’s most attractive features, and extremely popular with the children, is it's wonderful outside space and gardens, fully enclosed and secure for the children to enjoy. The nursery gardens offer plentiful opportunities for outdoor play and learning, which is a key aspect of Acorn’s ethos. Pre-school children have regular Forest School sessions, either in the nursery garden or at nearby Salcey Forest.

The building itself was formerly the village primary school and, whilst retaining the character of the original architecture, it has been sympathetically refurbished to provide a warm and homely environment. The rooms provide light and spacious play areas, with a child-centred focus.

Claire and her team work closely with parents and carers to develop children’s interests and skills, ensuring each of them reaches their full potential.

A variety of imaginative and creative play activities can be enjoyed alongside regular outings and trips.

Update: We have won!  We are so pleased to announce that our nursery at Brafield-On-The-Green has been voted “Nursery Of The Year” by the readers of The Northampton Chronicle and Echo newspaper. Nursery manager Claire Overton-Arch said: "The parents have voted for us, which is amazing. "It's a really nice recognition of the work the staff do on a daily basis." The nursery is brimming with activities to keep the children there entertained throughout the day, from tricycles, to sandpits and even a set of resident chickens - Pepa, Burt and Teddy. "We just feel that outdoor play is good for their general wellbeing," added Claire. "The children go and fetch the eggs every day, they make sure they have water. "It teaches the children about responsibility and they really enjoy it."Claire said the 13-strong team at the 'good'-rated nursery are all passionate about helping the toddlers develop at a crucial stage in their young lives."Watching the children grow from a baby to being these confident young children who are ready for school is the best part of the job," said Claire. "We are really lucky to know that we have been a part of that.
