Acorn Day Nursery, Letchworth

Located in the former Ernest Gardiner Treatment Centre in Letchworth, our new nursery will offer high-quality, affordable childcare and early years education for local families. The building will be thoughtfully refurbished and adapted to create four spacious nursery rooms, alongside two dedicated outdoor learning areas with direct access from the nursery rooms, providing children with excellent opportunities to learn, play and explore both indoors and outdoors.

We will offer full-time and part-time childcare for up to 78 children aged from six months to four years. The nursery will be open from 7.30am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. All Acorn nurseries close on bank holidays, for three additional days between Christmas and New Year, and for four staff training days each year. As a result, our fees are calculated over 49 weeks of the year, meaning you will not be charged for these planned closure days. However, fees will remain payable for any additional closures that are beyond our control, such as additional bank holidays announced by the Government.

Acorn places a strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, and the children will have the opportunity to be outdoors at some point every day, whatever the weather. Included in our fees are regular Forest School sessions; these exciting educational experiences are suitable for pre-schoolers and are delivered by fully trained forest school leaders and offer an innovative approach to outdoor play. All meals at the nursery will be freshly prepared on site each day by our dedicated catering team. Using high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients, including locally sourced produce where possible, we create delicious meals and snacks that children enjoy. Our menus are carefully planned to be nutritionally balanced, offering a wide variety of foods and flavours to support healthy growth, development and positive eating habits from an early age.

A home visit from the manager and your child’s keyperson is offered to all families as we believe children benefit from meeting their keyperson in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions. Children are encouraged to form close bonds using our key person system to ensure learning and development are encouraged on an individual basis.
