About our Nursery

Castlethorpe nursery is a lovely converted chapel situated in a quiet village a few miles north of Milton Keynes. It was the first Acorn nursery to open and was established in 1989.

We offer full and part-time care for up to 36 children from the age of four months to four years, and are open from 7.30am to 6.15pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. We are closed for all Bank Holidays, between Christmas and New Year, and four training days each year. This means that monthly fees are calculated over 49 weeks, so that you are not charged for any of our closure days.

Acorn places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning and the children enjoy play outside in all weathers, the nursery has an enclosed garden which the children have free flow access too. Pre-school children develop their outdoor learning at regular Forest School sessions, which take place at nearby Salcey Forest with Acorn’s fully qualified Forest School Leaders.

The nursery has a close relationship with the adjoining school. The out-of-school club, called The Wolery and run by nursery, operate from the school building and cater for children aged 4 to 8 years. The Wolery runs term-time after-school clubs, plus a holiday club during school holidays.

We offer a range of activities during the week, including Zumba, interactive story sessions, yoga and forest school. The children also visit a sheltered home on a regular basis where they have the opportunity to interact with the elderly residents. There are lovely places to visit around the village, such as the church, Castlethorpe mounds, sports grounds and parks, which the children visit regularly.

It’s not just the children who have all the fun at Acorn. We organise events on a regular basis to help parents meet each other, share experiences and talk to us. Some events are an opportunity to discuss children’s progress and development with the staff.

Acting Joint Nursery Managers

Jo

I have worked for Acorn for 26 years, I started off as a student at Castlethorpe and worked my way up to be part of the management team. Throughout my time with Acorn I have had experience in all rooms and have had a variety of roles which has given me more knowledge and experience. I have worked across all the sites within Acorn and in 2019 I decided to share my experience with everyone and became an ad hoc member of staff across all settings.
I live locally to the Castlethorpe site with my partner and three children, and  am currently acting as co-manager for maternity leave.

Sarah

I have been working in childcare for 14 years and have been with Acorn for six years. I hold a Level 3 in Childcare and Education which I completed back in 2007. I started off working for Acorn at our Brafield-on-the-Green site where I was a nursery practitioner and worked my way up to become Deputy. From this I decided to widen my experience by taking on the ad hoc role and working around all the Acorn sites. I am now covering at Castlethorpe for maternity cover, this is helping to widen my knowledge and experience.

Jo and Sarah are also Castlethorpe's Designated Safeguarding Leads, so if you ever have any concerns or would like to chat about anything safeguarding related, please visit or call the nursery on 01908 510222 and ask to speak to Jo or Sarah directly - alternatively, the setting can provide a direct email address for her.

If you have any questions, or would like to book a visit please contact us on [email protected] or call us on 01908 510222.
