Come and see us! 4 Wimborne Crescent, Westcroft, MK4 4DE

About our Nursery

Acorn at Westcroft is situated in the Westcroft District Centre, and is adjacent to our training centre where we host training for our staff and other early years professionals. The nursery has three outdoor play areas, giving children the opportunity to free-flow indoors and outdoors to access a full range of activities. Acorn places a strong emphasis on outdoor play and learning, and the children will be outdoors at some point every day, whatever the weather. Included in our fees are regular Forest School sessions. These exciting educational experiences are suitable for pre-schoolers and are delivered by fully trained forest school leaders and offer an innovative approach to outdoor play. We are very fortunate to have Howe Park Wood on our doorstep, which we visit regularly.

We offer full and part-time care for up to 91 children from the age of four months to four years, and are open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, all year round.

All Acorn nurseries are closed for all bank holidays, between Christmas and new year, plus our four training days each year. This means that monthly fees for 2024 are calculated over 49 weeks. You will not be charged for these days, however fees are payable for additional closure days which are out of our control, eg: additional bank holidays over the standard eight.

Our menus have been carefully planned to be both seasonal and nutritionally balanced and tasty ensuring we have clean plates every time! Our cook, Sarah, prepares all the nursery meals and snacks onsite each day providing nutritionally balanced meals which are both healthy and appetising. We only use fresh, local, ethically sourced produce to create our delicious meals. We can accommodate most dietary requirements and have won several awards for our food. We encourage children’s independence and teach them the valuable skills of preparing and serving some of their meals as well as learning about different foods; where they come from and growing our own.

The nursery offers Forest School sessions that take place weekly for our older children as well as many planned events throughout the year such as; sports days, graduations, messy stay and plays and cultural themed days. We are also passionate about getting involved with the local community, regularly visiting a group of elderly people at the Shenley Parish Council building nearby; hosting visits from the fire brigade, police, dentist and vets and arranging days where our parents can get involved in nursery life through reading, cooking, show and tell and joining us for forest school sessions.

A home visit from our management team and your child’s keyperson is offered to all new families as we believe children benefit from meeting their keyperson in a familiar environment, before attending the nursery for settling-in sessions.

  Meet Chrissa, our Nursery Manager

My name is Chrissa Giddeon, I have worked in childcare for over 25 years. I started as a practitioner and soon became a deputy manager. I had many opportunities of working in the rooms with the staff and children and have been able to implement my learning and supporting the staff in planning activities that feeds their curiosity. I am very passionate about how children learn outdoors and develop in their learning. I am very hands on and will help with whatever is needed at the time in the rooms.

As part of my personal development, I have trained as a health and safety representative. I am the Designated safeguard lead at Westcroft. I am also a qualified mini-bus driver and have now taken the role as Manager of Westcroft.
